Pedestrian killed in Ventura train crash
A 50-year-old man was killed when he was struck by an Amtrak train at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday just east of California Street and Harbor Boulevard in Ventura.
When Ventura police arrived at the scene, they found the 50-year-old pedestrian lying adjacent to the railroad tracks. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The train engineer told investigators that the train was traveling northbound at approximately 50 mph when he saw the pedestrian sitting on the railroad tracks in the middle of the trestle.
