A North Carolina ferry injured 13 passengers when it hit a sand bar and stopped suddenly Tuesday morning, officials said. An "Adventure Ferry" headed to Bald Head Island was traveling about 20 mph when it hit the sand bar and abruptly stopped near Battery Island after 9 a.m.

A logging truck overturned near Statesville Monday, causing a road to close. The crash happened just before noon on Old Mocksville Road about four miles northeast of town, WCNC reported. The truck driver was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police have released the name of a man who was struck and killed by a train east of downtown Durham on Monday afternoon.

Joseph Mewborn, 20, of Durham was struck at 12:20 p.m. near Pettigrew and Plum streets, said a Durham police spokeswoman.
