One dead, seven injured in crash near Beaverdam

The Beaverdam-Richland Fire Department used the jaws of life to remove Edgar from the wreckage, but he died at the scene.
A man who ran a stop sign at U.S. 30 died Friday, and seven other people were injured in the crash. William Edgar, 79, of Defiance, was pronounced deceased at the crash site. Edgar drove his Ford F-150 truck north on Thayer Road, and failed to yield at the U.S. 30 intersection around 2:10 p.m. An eastbound Ford passenger van, driven by 31-year-old Jason E. Kaufman, of Mishawaka, Indiana, collided with Edgar’s driver-side door.  Kaufman was taken to Lima Memorial Health System with serious injuries. Kaufman had six passengers in his vehicle, who all suffered injuries in the accident.
