Vails was driving east on SH 59 when a sport utility vehicle driven west on SH 59 by Jeffrey Chaiet, 35, of Stratford, attempted to pass several vehicles in a marked no-passing zone, the patrol reports.
The SUV struck the car driven by Vails. Chaiet was treated and released at the scene for injuries.
