One person killed in car crash in Lawton.
Helen Laurenzana, 42, was the driver of an SUV stopped at a traffic light that was struck from behind by a car, police said.
About 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, Lawton police responded to the crash at Fort Sill Boulevard and NW Smith Avenue. Laurenzana died at the scene.
Police said Laurenzana and a 17-year-old passenger were stopped at a traffic light when a car driven by Rashad Brady, 27, of Lawton, struck the SUV from behind. The 17-year-old was taken to Comanche County Memorial Hospital, treated and released with minor scratches. Brady was flown by helicopter to OU Medical Center and treated for injuries that include a broken femur, police said.
Lawton dispatch received several calls before the crash that a vehicle matching the description of Brady’s car was traveling at a high rate of speed, police said. Lawton police Capt. Craig Akard said investigators are still determining the car’s speed at the time of impact. The results of Brady’s toxicology report have yet to be released.
