Icy causes more than 200 crashes around Austin

Austin-Travis County EMS officials say they have responded to more than 100 wrecks since Thursday due to icy road conditions in the area. Police say they have responded to more than 250 crashes.

EMS responded to a 20-car pileup at Highway 290 and MoPac Expressway, and another multiple-car pileup at southbound U.S. 183 near Anderson Mill Thursday evening.

The City of Round Rock said that authorities responded to 28 accidents in Round Rock as of 9:45 p.m. Thursday.

Those wrecks include three people injured when a vehicle ran into the back of a Round Rock Fire Department truck at 15613 North MoPac Expressway around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. One person was injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles around 8:30 p.m. on FM 1431 west of Interstate Highway 35, on a bridge over the railroad tracks.

Friday morning about 40 to 50 cars were stuck on a road due to not being able to get up the hill.

Williamson County announced that it responded to 18 accidents with injuries and 21 accidents without injuries between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday.
