"It's the responsibility of all parties. It's the responsibility of the motorcyclist they need to take extra precaution because they know people don't see them as well and being a smaller vehicle they could be hidden behind other vehicles and not be seen. But its also the responsibility of vehicles around here seeing as we do have such a high motorcycle population," said Cpl. Chad Martinka of the Austin Police Department.
Motorcyclist killed in FM 2222 crash
Police say the motorcycle was headed East when a car turned in front of and collided with the motorcycle. The motorcycle rider, a woman in her 20’s, was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
A woman in her mid 20s is dead after a crash involving a motorcycle and a car on Monday morning in the 7700 block of FM 2222 just east of Bell Mountain Drive in West Austin. A car turned in front of the motorcyclist, causing the crash. She was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge and pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the car is cooperating with police and they are unsure if speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.
Since motorcycle crashes often end in serious injuries, victims need immediate help
Motorcycle accidents are more likely to end in serious injuries or death for the motorcyclist, since the rider is not protected from the force of a collision. When a motorcycle accident happens, the injured rider needs immediate, appropriate medical care, the accident needs to be investigated, and the insurance companies need to be informed.
