Charges have been filed against the suspected drunken driver involved in a fatal crash on Highway 288.
Officials said around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, 24-year-old Joshua Gilbert was speeding on the South Freeway when he abruptly turned off the freeway and plowed his car into the back of another vehicle.
Inside that vehicle, police said was a family of four, including a father, mother and their two children.
Houston police said the 35-year-old father, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, and his 15-year-old daughter, who was seated in the back seat, died in the accident.
The driver, the 38-year-old mother, and her 3-year-old daughter survived the crash, but were rushed to Hermann Memorial Hospital.
Houston police said the mother suffered severe injuries and her daughter broke her ankle.
Police said Gilbert was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Witnesses at the scene said Gilbert was driving his Cadillac more than 100 mph moments before the crash.
Gilbert is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxicated assault.
