Investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are looking into what caused the crash.

Witnesses told investigators they saw the plane flying around and then heard a pop. They said the pilot began trying to land in a field but ended up crashing in a ravine.

The medical examiner's office would not release the identity of the man, but Lt.Thomas Matjeka of the Kendall County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that the pilot wasFrederick Langston, 70, of Comfort.
The pilot of an airplane that crashed in Kendall County on Tuesday has died. The pilot, a man believed to be in his 70s, has not yet been publicly identified. Officials said the accident happened around 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Sisterdale Road and Walnut Grove. The man was ejected from the plane during the accident. He was airlifted to San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment.
