Police have found and recovered the body of a young woman who was in a car that crashed into Lake Waco on New Year's Eve. Brittany Stevenson, 24, was initially thought to have exited the submerged vehicle after divers spent hours searching, but found no trace of her. However, Waco Police Sgt. Patrick Swanton released a statement that divers had recovered Stevenson's body. Stevenson was in a Kia Forte that smashed through a guardrail and over a dirt barrier into Lake Waco around 11 p.m. Wednesday. A second woman in the car was able to exit the car and swim to safety.
At about 4:30 a.m. at 4700 Boone near Bellaire, a driver lost control of their vehicle and veered from the road, crashing into a tree. The victim died at the scene. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
A pilot from Colorado has died in a Texas crash of a single-engine plane that was used for aerial patrols of oil and gas fields. 28-year-old Jeffery Michael McNamee of Littleton, Colorado, died in Monday's crash near Odessa. Investigators are trying to discover the cause of the Cessna 172 crash which ended up burning in a field. The wreckage was discovered when dispatchers lost contact with the pilot and sent another aircraft to search for the aircraft. Check back for more information on this crash as it becomes available.
