A motorcyclist died after crashing into a vehicle early Sunday morning, El Cajon police said.

The collision was reported near West Washington and Van Houten avenues about 5:55 a.m., police said in a news release.

The motorcycle was headed west on Washington Avenue when a vehicle turned from east Washington onto north Van Houten in front of the rider, the release said. The motorcyclist wasn't able to stop and crashed into the vehicle.

A series of crashes triggered by an alleged drunken driver left three men dead and five other people injured, including a man who was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.

The suspected drunken driver, a San Diego man, was driving north from Interstate 805 onto the transition ramp to westbound state Route 52 when he lost control, according to the CHP.

The vehicle veered off the right side of the road, careened across a dirt embankment and rolled several times, a CHP dispatcher said.

A motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon in a fiery collision on Interstate 8 in Mission Valley, authorities said.

The eastbound motorcycle crashed into a car near Mission Center Road shortly after 4 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Both vehicles then became engulfed in flames.

Passers-by stopped and performed CPR on the downed rider before the arrival of paramedics, who declared the victim dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

An investigation was under Friday into a head-on crash in rural East San Diego County that killed a suspected drunken driver and left a 48-year-old Humbolt woman hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The crash occurred on Church Road, south of Old Highway 80, late Thursday afternoon, according to a California Highway Patrol Office.

The California Highway Patrol said a multi-vehicle crash on state Route 76 at Airport Road snarled traffic Wednesday morning in Oceanside.

The wreck occurred at 5:55 a.m. on westbound SR-76 between Benet and Airport roads.

When Oceanside police and fire units arrived, it was determined that a van and four passenger vehicles were involved, but all of the injuries were minor and that smoke in the area was from hot brake fluid spread all over one of the vehicles and the roadway.

A 60-year-old Escondido woman was killed and two other women were injured in a crash on Old Highway 395 on Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported about 2:30 p.m. just north of Deer Springs Road, a CHP Officer said.

The woman was driving a black 2002 Honda south on Old Highway 395 when, for an unknown reason, the car hit a curb on the passenger’s side, he said.

The Honda spun into the path of an oncoming 2013 Cadillac SRX headed north on the highway, also known as Champagne Boulevard, police said.

Police say four people were injured late Tuesday night following a hit-and-run crash in the Bankers Hill area of San Diego. The wreck occurred at 10:30 p.m. at the corner of 5th Avenue and Laurel Street, a San Diego Police Department official said. Witnesses stated that a white Jaguar slammed into two vehicles waiting at a stop light at 5th Avenue then sped off westbound on Laurel Street, leaving a trail of radiator fluid behind. Some of the witnesses followed the suspect vehicle and called police, until the Jaguar came to a sputtering halt on the 2400 block of Brant Street.

Three people were injured Monday night in a four-vehicle collision on southbound state Route 15 near University Avenue in City Heights, authorities said.

All were transported to hospitals, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said. At least one person had to be extricated.

The collision was reported about 5:40 p.m. Four vehicles were initially blocking the right shoulder and two right lanes, the California Highway Patrol said on its website.

A fiery crash left an SUV and an RV charred Monday morning when both went over the side of Interstate 8 near Descanso and tumbled about 100 feet down a rocky embankment, authorities said.

Six people were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, a California Highway Patrol Officer said.

A San Diego man, 39, was driving an SUV west on I-8 east of state Route 79 about 9:55 a.m. when he made an unsafe lane change and sideswiped the RV, police said.

A San Diego Gas & Electric utility truck was the vehicle involved in a hit-and-run-crash in El Cajon that left a homeless man dead, police said Friday. The victim, Robert Fisher, 54, was crossing Jamacha Road south of East Main Street outside of a crosswalk about 10 p.m. Monday when he was run over by the truck, police said. A few minutes later Fisher, who was lying in the roadway, was also struck by a 2003 Hyundai Sonata whose driver pulled over, police said. Fisher died of blunt force trauma to the head, neck and torso, the county Medical Examiner’s Office said.
