At about 12:50pm, a pickup truck driven by John C. Bates, 63, was stopped on Sunnyside-Mabton Road waiting to turn left onto Penn Avenue, with another pickup truck driven by Ramirez-Hernandez behind him.

Just after 8:00am, Boderick was driving east on I-82 when she slowed for traffic ahead, but another eastbound car driven by Michael K. Bermudez, 24, did not slow down and struck her vehicle.
