A Braintree teen has pleaded not guilty in Quincy District Court to operating under the influence of drugs after he allegedly crashed his car into a police cruiser while he was trying to videotape an accident scene on his cellphone, police said. William Sawyer Jr., 18, was also charged with impeded operation, operating to endanger, and obstructing an emergency vehicle, according to a Norfolk district attorney’s spokesman.

One man is dead after police say he was ejected from his pickup truck during a crash on I-185 Saturday afternoon. The two-vehicle crash occurred in the Northbound lanes just North of the St. Mary's Road exit when the driver of the truck rear-ended another vehicle. Officials say 27-year-old Mitchell Lee Miles lost control of the vehicle and hit the guard rail before he was ejected and died. Traffic was redirected from the St. Mary's Northbound entrance to I-185 as officials closed the lanes to investigate the scene. No one from the other vehicle was injured.

A 27-year-old Stuart man died early Saturday in a wreck on Southwest Martin Downs Boulevard in Palm City, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Philip Wade Harvey Jr. was driving his 2011 Hyundai Accent eastbound near Southwest Mapp Road when a 2009 Acura MDX struck him from behind, FHP said. The Acura continued its forward motion and pushed Harvey’s Hyundai through the intersection and further down the roadway.

According to officials with the Pearl Police Department, an accident happened this morning at I-20 and Pearson Road. According to Pearl police, two single cab trucks collided. One truck rear-ended the other coming down the I-20 West exit ramp. The driver in the vehicle that rear-ended the truck was airlifted to UMC. His truck leaked oil and gas, and caught fire while he was inside. Firefighters had to cut him out of his truck. Crews were cleaning up the spilled chemicals. There is no word on his injuries.

The driver of a minivan suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash on Interstate 295 in Mandarin on Friday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. State troopers said the minivan rear-ended a pickup truck near the Old St. Augustine Road exit about 4 p.m., and the minivan veered into the guardrail. The driver was flown to UF Health Jacksonville. No one in the pickup truck was hurt. The crash blocked several lanes of traffic.

The southbound side of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway has reopened after a 30-minute closure due to an accident. Two vehicles were involved in the accident at mile marker 17, about seven miles from the north shore. Bridge General Manager Carlton Dufrechou said the wreck happened after one vehicle rear-ended another vehicle in the right lane. The vehicle that was rear ended was having mechanical problems, he said, and was traveling slowly. The second vehicle was approaching rapidly from behind, he said. The drivers of both vehicles received minor injuries, Dufrechou said.

The Belmont Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic accident. The wreck occurred at 9:27 a.m. on Interstate-85 North near the Exit 27 off ramp, according to the news release from the Belmont Police Department. The incident occurred when a tractor trailer ran into the back of a pickup truck that had slowed down due to weather related traffic conditions. Gilbert Lazarus Carmona, 28, of Rutherfordton, died in the crash, police say. The investigation is ongoing. It has not yet been determined if charges will be filed against the driver of the tractor trailer.

The northbound lanes of the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway have reopened following an earlier wreck, according to Causeway officials. The Bridge General Manager said a three-vehicle wreck occurred near the drawbridge at around 10 a.m. The drawbridge was open to allow a barge to pass, he said. A northbound driver did not stop and plowed into the back of a stopped vehicle, he said. St. Tammany Fire District No. 1 spokesman Jason Kaufmann said one person had to be extricated. That person was taken to a local hospital, he said.

A motorcycle wreck on Interstate 10 at Queen Creek Road closed the westbound lanes of the freeway Wednesday morning, according to officials. Arizona Department of Public Safety officials worked alongside the Gila River Police Department to close the freeway at 8:30 a.m., said a DPS spokesman. The lanes were reopened about an hour and a half later, just before 10 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The motorcyclist was traveling faster than the speed of traffic on I-10 when he hit the back of an SUV and tumbled across the freeway, according to Garcia.
