Maryland State Police troopers say two people have died following a three-car crash on I-81 in Williamsport. The State Police says it happened at about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday. Authorities say an investigation found that a 2004 Jeep slowed due to a backup related to road construction. Troopers say the driver of a 2010 Ford pickup truck failed to notice the backed up traffic and hit the Jeep, which erupted in flames. The truck then hit a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer.

Five people are recovering after police say an elderly man crashed his Black Cadillac into a shoe store in Tredyffrin Township on Tuesday. The 75-year-old man was driving on East Swedesboro Road when investigators say he lost control and crashed into the Famous Footwear store. Five people were inside the store at the time. Police say the driver, as well as four people inside the store, were injured. Police have not yet revealed the driver’s condition. However, he was taken into custody for suspected DUI

Two people were killed in a crash on Route 44 in Middleborough on Tuesday, authorities said. Dennis Canning, 64, of Middleborough, was driving a Toyota vehicle that collided with a Buick driven by 30-year-old Kimberly Bebar, of Ames, Iowa, according to a Middleborough police spokesman. Both drivers were killed, and no other injuries were reported. Police responded to the crash at about 1:15 p.m. on Route 44 near Exit 6, in front of a Holiday Inn Express, Perkins said. No other details were immediately available. State and local police are investigating.

A Sacramento man is in jail in Contra Costa County after leading law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase that began near the state Capitol and ended when his vehicle crashed in Richmond.

A pilot died Tuesday evening after crashing his small plane earlier in the day at the Washington County Airport. Igor Novodran, 52, has been identified as the pilot. He suffered a fractured skull, multiple fractures below the waist and several cuts and bruises. According to emergency dispatchers, the single-engine plane was attempting to land about 2 p.m. when it crashed onto its roof and rolled down a hillside.

The City of Brandon experienced two incidents this morning involving Brandon Police Department units. The first incident involved a motorcycle officer. The single accident occurred at approximately 8:31 am in the westbound lane of Government St./Hwy 80, near the I-20 over pass. Officer Chase Beamon was transported to University Medical Center via American Medical Response Ambulance. The officer is responsive and is currently being treated.

A woman was killed this morning when her car veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle on Highway 99 in Lynnwood, police said. The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. in the 17100 block of Highway 99. Police said a woman, later identified as Jeretta C. Graham, 77, was driving south when her car veered into northbound traffic, colliding head-on with a second vehicle. The southbound driver was pronounced dead at the scene and the second driver, a woman in her 40s, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Philadelphia Police are investigating a hit and run accident that left a pedestrian seriously injured in North Philadelphia Tuesday. It happened at 21st Street and Susquehanna Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Police say a woman, believed to be in her late 40's, had just exited a SEPTA bus when she was struck by a white Chevy Impala at a high rate of speed. The impact sent the victim flying nearly 30 feet before she landed in the street. She was taken to Temple University Hospital with serious head injuries.

One person died and two others were arrested late Tuesday morning after a speeding car crashed on Highway 78, according to DeKalb County police. Police say an officer in the area saw the car speeding, and soon after that arrived at the crash scene. According to police, two people jumped out of the car just after the crash and ran away. They were arrested a short time later. A third person was found inside the wrecked car, badly injured. That person later died at the hospital. The car involved in the accident had been stolen, according to police.

Maui police are investigating a pedestrian accident that left a 52-year-old Haiku woman with life-threatening injuries. Police say the accident occurred Monday at 7:32 p.m. on Kokomo Rd., just north of Nehe Pl. in Haiku. Police say a 2002 Lexus RX300 was traveling north on Kokomo Rd. when it hit the woman walking north-bound within the roadway, around a utility truck performing service in the area.
