A driver lost control of his or her car Thursday morning at 72nd and N. Brighton in Kansas City North Thursday morning at about 6:30 a.m., sending the car into the woods before it flipped over.

One person was killed. Police say it appears this was a single-car accident and have not yet determined or released what may have caused the driver to lose control.

The victim has not been identified.

A 20-year-old woman was hit and killed by a vehicle in Columbia Heights overnight.

Police say the woman was hit on the 4400 block of University Avenue Northeast near 44th Avenue Northeast around 1:55 a.m. Thursday. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the victim is a 32-year-old Fridley woman, who wasn't injured. No foul play is suspected, and police say the driver stopped.

It’s unclear what led to the crash, but police are investigating. No other details have been released.

A 25-year-old man was seriously injured on Interstate 93 on Thursday when a tanker truck struck his Jeep, throwing him from the vehicle.

Police said the man suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Elliot Hospital for surgery.

The crash shut down a portion of I-93 north for about four hours. State police said the truck crashed into the Jeep near exit 6 about 12:30 a.m.

"As a result of that, the operator of the Jeep, the 25-year-old gentleman, was ejected from the Jeep," said Lt. Christopher Wagner.

A woman has died after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver while crossing the street in Miami Thursday morning, police said.

The incident happened as the woman was crossing Southwest 8th Street at LeJenue Road around 2:30 a.m., Miami Police said.

The driver of the gold Hyundai Elantra fled the scene but was stopped by some witnesses and brought back to the scene, police said.

Police were questioning the driver, a young man in his 20s, who told police he was driving home from work when the incident happened.

Police said DUI is not a factor in the crash.

A motorcyclist was killed following a multi-vehicle collision at a Chesterfield intersection during Thursday evening’s commute.

Monarch Fire District officials say a car collided with the motorcycle at Appalachian Trail and Olive at approximately 5:20 p.m.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 63-year-old man was ''seriously'' injured in a hit-and-run crash in a bank parking lot on the North Side Thursday afternoon. About 3 p.m., a 63-year-old man was struck by an dark gray "older model" Nissan Rogue that was driving in reverse in a parking lot in the 4800 block of North Western Avenue, according to a statement from Chicago police. After hitting the man, the driver reportedly drove from the scene west on Gunnison Street, the statement said. The SUV had a broken rear license plate light cover and a dent on the driver's side door, the statement said.

A man who crashed his car into a house Thursday evening is accused of driving the wrong way down another street minutes earlier — all while being “extremely impaired.” Burlington police were searching for the 1994 Honda Accord driven by Mario O’Keith Strayhorn, 22, of Roslyn Drive, after it struck another car while going the wrong way down Fisher Street.

Both drivers were killed in a collision Thursday night on Highway 17 about 10 miles north of Moses Lake. The Washington State Patrol says a car driven by 58-year-old Peggy A. Dubey of Moses Lake was southbound in the northbound lane when she collided with a car driven by 42-year-old Terri J. Vannoy of Ephrata. Troopers believe drugs or alcohol was involved.

Authorities were trying to determine Friday why a FedEx truck roared across the grassy median of a Northern California freeway and slammed into a charter bus, causing a fiery explosion that left 10 people dead and dozens more injured. The National Transportation Safety Board sent an investigative "go team" from Washington to the scene on Interstate 5 near the town of Orland, about 100 miles north of Sacramento. The crash killed the drivers of the truck and bus, five students and three chaperones. The bus passengers were high school seniors on their way to visit the campus of Humboldt State

About 7:50 a.m. Thursday, Victor Aaron Beisel, 69, was killed when a semitruck crashed into the driver’s side of his pickup, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. Beisel was on the southbound shoulder of U.S. 183, three miles north of Taloga, and attempted to make a U-turn. Troopers said Beisel failed to yield to a semitruck traveling southbound, resulting in the wreck.
