A Ridgefield man was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon in a vehicle collision along Interstate 5 in Castle Rock. Angelina Puris, 63, of Centralia was driving north on the freeway in the left lane near Milepost 49 when she lost control of her Nissan Sentra and swerved to the left. She crossed the median and went into the southbound lanes, where she struck a Mazda MZ3 driven by Robert Huling, 72, of Ridgefield. Puris and Huling were transported to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview. Puris was later transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.

An Alamo man riding his bicycle was fatally struck by a car in Solano County near the border to Yolo County on Wednesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol. The 71-year-old man, later identified as Dan Taylor, was bicycling east on Putah Creek Road about one mile east of Interstate Highway 505 shortly before 5 p.m., the CHP said. He was riding a timed interval race through a long stretch of road that runs between orchards in the area, according to the CHP.

Ten people were taken to a Beaumont hospital after a city transit bus was involved in a collision with another vehicle and then struck a nearby home. Beaumont police say the bus was carrying 13 passengers when the collision occurred Wednesday morning. Eight passengers, the bus driver and the driver of a heavily damaged Chrysler 300 all were transported for medical treatment. Officer Neil Mireles told the Beaumont Enterprise that none of the injuries appeared serious. The bus appeared to strike a porch at the front of the home, reducing it to a rubble of bricks.

A Detroit police sergeant is in stable condition after being struck by a van in a hit-and-run accident on the city’s west side Wednesday afternoon. A police spokesman said the officer was conducting an investigation around 4:20 p.m. at Majestic and Mansfield Streets when he was hit by a woman driving a van. The driver fled in the vehicle after hitting the officer, but was arrested a few blocks away from where the accident happened, Woody said.

Vancouver police are investigating a single-vehicle that killed a Vancouver man early this morning. Officers were called to the 3700 block of Columbia Way at 12:10 a.m. and found a car had crashed into a tree on the south side of the roadway. Emergency crews extricated the driver, Anthony N. Almeida, 24, of Vancouver, and took him to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died at the hospital. The agency’s traffic unit is investigating, but police said that speed was a contributing factor.

A driver whose vehicle ended up in a ditch early today in the Town of Holland was charged with driving while intoxicated, Erie County sheriff’s deputies reported. A deputy was dispatched 12:45 a.m. to Hunters Creek Road, where he found a vehicle with heavy front end damage. Rodney T. Offhaus Jr. 21, of Elma, was charged with driving while intoxicated and numerous, unspecified traffic violations. There were no injuries from the accident, deputies said. Offhaus submitted to a chemical breath test, which indicated he had a blood-alcohol content of .11, deputies said.

A woman is in the hospital after a hit-and-run crash on Highway 6 in northwest Harris County. According to Harris County deputies, the 30-year-old victim was trying to cross the intersection at Kieth Harrow Boulevard early Wednesday morning when the vehicle hit her. Officials say the driver did not stop. Deputies said Life Flight airlifted the victim to Memorial Hermann Hospital in serious, but stable condition. She’s expected to survive. Investigators do not have a description of the wanted vehicle.

Maryland State Police said they were investigating a fatal accident Wednesday morning in Prince George’s County, as officials throughout the area warned drivers to slow down because of icy road conditions caused when Tuesday night’s snow melted and freezing temperatures made roads slick. The fatal accident occurred around 5 a.m. on the westbound side of Route 214 and St. Michaels Drive in Kettering, where police responded to a report of an overturned 1994 Dodge pick-up truck on the road. The driver, an adult male, was pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

Two people were transported Wednesday morning to area hospitals after a two-vehicle crash on Route 283 westbound in East Hempfield Township in which a Jeep Wrangler overturned. The driver of the Wrangler was ejected from the vehicle, but suffered injuries that did not appear to be life threatening, township police said. The crash occurred around 6:03 a.m. and briefly blocked both westbound lanes of Route 283 in the area of Spooky Nook Road.

Metro Police have reopened Spring Mountain Road near Decatur Boulevard following a crash that left a woman pedestrian dead Wednesday morning. The 45-year-old woman was struck and killed by a van shortly before 6 a.m. Police say the woman pedestrian was not in a crosswalk when she was hit. According to police, she was walking with a man who was pushing a shopping cart. He made it to the other side of the street and was yelling to the woman to get out of the road when she was struck. She was taken to University Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
