A Kihei man is dead after an early-morning crash on Maui.

The incident happened at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on Piikea Avenue in Kihei.

Maui police say 47-year-old Kenneth Elf was crossing the road when he was hit by a delivery truck. The truck then veered out of control and hit a fence on the side of the road.

Elf died at the scene. Police say he was not in a marked crosswalk.

Police are still investigating whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

At least one person was injured following an early-morning crash in Makiki. The single-vehicle accident happened at about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday on the corner of Wilder Avenue and Liholiho Street. One person was taken to the hospital. Traffic in the area was reopened shortly before 4 a.m.

A man who died after being involved in a crash between a car and a bicycle on the Big Island has been identified.

The Hawaii Island police have identified the man as 58-year-old Darwin E. Barve of Hilo.

The crash happened on Route 19 near the 3-mile marker Saturday, January 18.

Three people were injured in an early morning crash in Moiliili Saturday. It happened around 1:10 a.m. at the intersection of South King Street and Isenberg, near Old Stadium Park. According EMS officials, two men, a 25-year-old and a 28-year-old, were taken to the hospital in serious condition. A 38-year-old woman suffered minor injuries.

The Ka Uka Boulevard off-ramp along the H-2 Freeway in Waipio was reopened following a critical car crash.

The crash happened at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

Traffic investigators say the driver of the white Mazda lost control, causing the car to flip and land on its hood.

A man in his 20s was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A woman in her 20s was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

No other vehicles were involved.

An early-morning crash took out two utility poles, a sign, and snapped a tree in half in Waimanalo.

It happened at about 2:40 a.m. Thursday, right in front of Waimanalo Beach Park.

Both lanes of Kalanianaole Highway were closed for about three hours. Honolulu police were able to get the lines onto the side of the highway and reopened all lanes shortly before 6 a.m.

A popular open market that is held every Thursday at the beach park was cancelled by the city.

An accident along Kalakaua Avenue caused a major traffic snarl and landed a man in jail. Honolulu police say at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday near Makaloa Street a car lost control and slammed into a utility pole, bringing it and another pole down. Kalakaua Avenue was closed while crews fixed the poles. Traffic backed up all the way into Waikiki. The road was reopened at about 12:45 p.m. The driver of the car, 56-year-old Wayne Ramel, was arrested for drunk driving, driving without a license, and refusing to submit to a breathalyzer. He was released from police custody after posting bail.

A woman is dead after the car she was in crashed in Windward Oahu Wednesday night.

Honolulu police say at about 6:30 p.m., the car veered off Ahuimanu Road and hit a tree.

"The driver, a male in his 50s, was taken to Queen's in serious condition. The passenger, a female also in her 50s, was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where she later expired," an HPD spokesman said. "We're not looking at speed at this point. As far as impairment, we will be investigating that."

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Honolulu police were called to a multi-vehicle crash on the H-1 Freeway Tuesday morning.

The accident happened in the westbound direction shortly after 7:50 a.m. near the Makakilo off ramp.

According to police, three vehicles and a motorcycle were involved in the crash.

At this time, it is unknown if anyone was injured.

Some lanes were blocked off while police investigated.

Big Island police believe speed and alcohol were factors in a crash that killed a Hilo man early Tuesday morning.

Police say 40-year-old Tracy Pack was driving on Kinoole Street in Hilo when his car veered off the road while trying to make a turn.

The car went through a chain-link fence and slammed into a building.

Pack was taken to the Hilo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Pack was not wearing a seat belt.

This is the second traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, compared with zero at this time last year.
