An off-duty Atlanta police officer was struck by a vehicle while working to help a stranded motorist on Interstate 285 late Monday night.

The officer, who has not been identified, was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Information at the scene was limited, but the officer was said to be 'alert and breathing' when he was taken to the hospital.

Authorities are expected to comment further on the officer's condition later this afternoon.

Police are investigating if weather played a role in a deadly crash in Chicago.

According to authorities, the 64-year-old driver hit a tree and then crashed into a store front in the 6200-block of North Pulaski at approximately 1 a.m.

Paramedics say the man died at the scene.

A Detroit Lions practice squad member drove through a non-working traffic light in a Downriver suburb and broad-sided another car, seriously injuring the 32-year-old Dearborn driver, Taylor Police said today.

The driver, identified in police reports as Angela Marie Chantelois, suffered head injuries in the Nov. 17 accident.

Brandon Hepburn, a rookie linebacker for the team, is likely to be cited in the accident.

Charissa Judkins died from injuries suffered in a Nov. 3 Kent single-vehicle crash into a telephone pole on 148th Avenue Southeast. The driver, Andrew Lucas Shock, of Covington, suffered serious injuries. Paramedics transported Shock to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he was listed Wednesday in serious condition in the intensive care unit. Judkins died at the scene of the accident. "Vehicular homicide charges are possible if the driver survives his injuries based on the death of the passenger," Kent Police Sgt. Robert Constant in a Wednesday email.

Israel Thornton, age 5, was running to catch a school bus to attend Village Prep School when he crossed Denison Avenue and was struck and fatally injured by a 2012 Kia Sorrento. Thornton was taken to a local medical center where he died. The vehicle's driver, 25-year-old Jerome Lee, fled and failed to stop and offer aid to the boy. Lee will be sentenced on March 5th where he will recieve as many as three years in prison.

The driver of a pickup truck was attempting to pass a tractor-trailer in heavy fog on State Route 548 early Tuesday when he plowed head-on into an oncoming car, killing himself and the 18-year-old woman driving the car, the Washington State Patrol said. The pickup truck was being driven by Wesley B. Martin, 39, of Gautier, Miss.  He was dead at the scene, the State Patrol said. Martin was driving eastbound on SR 548 east of Kickerville Road when he attempted to pass a semi in heavy fog, the State Patrol said.
