At about 7:30pm, the local sheriff's office responded to a crash involving three people injured after thier car veered off of the road into a ditch. Of the people injured, two were brought to a hospital via ambulance, while another who had sustained critical injuries was airlifted to a hospital. Check back for updates on the victims' identities and cause of the crash.

Two Nassau County residents were killed Sunday in a high-speed crash after they deliberately drove their van into a police squad car and then fled the scene. Eduardo Zapata, 23, of Westbury, and Jackeline Reyes, 22, of Bellmore, died in the crash on Homestead Turnpike in Elmont. The law enforcement officer was standing outside his squad car when Zapata intentionally backed into it and sped away. Soon after, police saw the van drive at high speed west on Homestead Turnpike and strike a vehicle that was waiting to turn onto the turnpike from Meacham Avenue.

The crash happened on Route 22 West, near North Adamsville Road, shortly before 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, when the driver, a 30-year-old Somerville man, lost control of his 2003 Ford Mustang while changing lanes, spun out, and struck a utility pole. The driver was ejected from the car, and the man's passenger, a 34-year-old woman, was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Somerset where she was pronounced dead. The driver was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he was treated for serious injuries.

Those mourning the death of 37-year-old Summer A. Rupert-Wozniczka have stopped at Lakeshore Road to leave flowers, notes and other items. Rupert-Wozniczka was jogging along the road when Vincent Carello drove into her and then fled the scene. Carello was charged Thursday with felony charges of second-degree vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs, a speeding violation, unsafe tires, and two lane violations.

Jessica Ortiz, 21, was in her vehicle on the shoulder of Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore when another car struck her at approximately 12:30 p.m. Ortiz's vehicle then crashed into the back of the tow truck that was parked in front of her vehicle. She was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where she was pronounced deceased. Raymond Reinhardt, the 51-year-old driver of the vehicle that crashed into Ortiz was also transported to the hospital and he is listed in critical but stable condition. The tow truck driver was not hurt.

New York State Police trooper Joshua Lenkins was on routine patrol on Telegraph Road in Keeseville at approximately 7:15 am when he allegedly struck a vehicle driven by Jennifer Chauvin of Peru. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her two sons, ages three and six, were in the car when the accident occurred, and they are being treated at CVPH for non-life threatening injuries. New York State Police and the Clinton Country District Attorney's Office are investigating the accident.

At 6:20 a.m., a man in his 60s was crossing the street at 18th Avenue and 65th Street and was hit by a motorist. He was sent to Lutheran Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A 27 year old male, of Baldwinsville, was injured in three car accident on West Bear Street in Syracuse, NY after he failed to stop at a red light and hit a Kia on Solar Street, causing the Kia to hit a Subaru stopped at the red light on West Bear Street.  The 35 year old driver of the Subaru and his wife, and the 23 year old driver of the Kia were not injured.  The driver of the Impla was transported to Upstate University Hospital.

A health-related condition caused a driver to crash into Lake Ontario off Lockhaven Beach Road in Scriba, NY.  No details were provided to protect health-related privacy of the driver, but no casualties were reported.

A woman in her 60s was crossing the street at Ralph Avenue and East 65th Street around 7 a.m., when a vehicle struck and killed her. The driver remained at the scene and there were no signs of criminality.
