A Painesville man is dead after his vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole Tuesday night, closing down a road for hours and disrupting power.
Lake County Sheriff's Office said a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling eastbound on Madison Avenue when the car left the south side of the road just after 9 p.m. Tuesday. It struck a Painesville City Power utility pole in the 700 block of Madison Avenue and sheared the pole at its base.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Craig McCroskey, 28, of Painesville, according to the Sheriff's Office.
A 24-year-old Cleveland woman, thrown from a car early this morning during a hit-and-run accident, was later run over by the vehicle when its driver returned to the scene, Cleveland police said.
Mattie J. Quellen Stubbs was pronounced dead near the intersection of Euclid Avenue and Coltman Road around 3 a.m. Police said Shamanique Bryant, the driver of the car Stubbs was riding in, was arrested for aggravated vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of the accident. They said in a release that driving while intoxicated charges will likely be added.
Cincinnati police are investigating an injury crash on Interstate 71 Saturday.
Josephine Djordjevic, 24, was operating a vehicle north on I-71 when she lost control of her vehicle, went off the right side of the highway and struck a guardrail.
Djordjevic was trapped and had to be extricated from her vehicle by the Cincinnati Fire Department.
She was transported to UC Medical Center for her injuries. Her condition was not released.
Police said she was not wearing a seat belt.
Troopers from the Athens post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a single-vehicle, fatal crash that occurred on state Route 278 early Thursday morning.
According to a report from troopers, a Ford Ranger, driven by 33-year-old James R. Cunningham was, was traveling south on S.R. 278 when Cunningham apparently failed to negotiate a left curve at about 1:46 a.m. The Ford traveled over the centerline and off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment before overturning.
Cunningham was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers.
A four-vehicle crash at the entrance to an Ohio mall has injured three people.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says the crash happened Wednesday afternoon as a compact car was turning left into a Sandusky Mall entrance on U.S. 250 in Sandusky. A truck tried to swerve to avoid the compact car but clipped it. Debris from that collision struck a nearby sedan. The truck then slid off the roadway and hit a midsize sedan waiting at a traffic light in the mall's entrance.
Only the left lane of Interstate 275 was open at Reed Hartman Highway after a multi-vehicle accident.
Dispatchers said several vehicles were involved in an accident just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
At least one victim was flown to the hospital, dispatchers said.
Another victim, a child, also suffered serious injuries.
A black Jeep was one vehicle involved in the accident. Officers did not say when all lanes would be open.
The Hamilton County Coroner had been called to the scene but police officers would not confirm that someone was killed in the crash.
