Jose Villatoro was driving on Smithland road when he lost control of his car, left the roadway and struck a utility pole. He was flown to a hospital in Charlottesville; his condition is currently unknown.
Deputies in Rockingham County were pursuing a car driven by Christopher Reeves before it crashed near Beldor Road. Reeves is being held in the county jail.
