A driver is dead and three passengers were taken to the hospital after the SUV they were in struck a tree in Scottsdale.
The accident happened around noon Sunday on Scottsdale Road just north of McCormick Parkway.
The SUV was traveling northbound when the driver lost control, entered the median and slammed into a tree on the east side of Scottsdale Road just north of McCormick Parkway, said Scottsdale police Officer David Pubins.
Northern Indiana authorities say a South Bend woman and her two small dogs have died after a freight train struck her car at a crossing.
St. Joseph County police say the collision Sunday morning killed 60-year-old Vicky Long of South Bend. Witnesses tell officers the woman drove her car around crossing arms and into the path of the train at a Norfolk Southern crossing just west of South Bend Regional Airport.

He’s been identified as 55-year-old man from Makawao.
As for the driver of the car, he’s been identified as a 69-year-old man also from Makawao, and he was treated for minor injuries.
Investigators are still trying to figure out what led to the crash.

The initial investigation reveals a silver Nissan Frontier pickup caught fire after colliding with a Freightliner tractor trailer that was parked on the right shoulder.
The driver of the Nissan has been identified as 30-year-old Brandon R. Delillo, of Baltimore. Delillo was declared dead on the scene.
