A driver is dead and three passengers were taken to the hospital after the SUV they were in struck a tree in Scottsdale.

The accident happened around noon Sunday on Scottsdale Road just north of McCormick Parkway.

The SUV was traveling northbound when the driver lost control, entered the median and slammed into a tree on the east side of Scottsdale Road just north of McCormick Parkway, said Scottsdale police Officer David Pubins.

Northern Indiana authorities say a South Bend woman and her two small dogs have died after a freight train struck her car at a crossing.

St. Joseph County police say the collision Sunday morning killed 60-year-old Vicky Long of South Bend. Witnesses tell officers the woman drove her car around crossing arms and into the path of the train at a Norfolk Southern crossing just west of South Bend Regional Airport.

Police say it appears all warning systems were working at the time of the crash.

Police say a Nissan car heading south on Baldwin Ave. crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist died at the hospital.

He’s been identified as 55-year-old man from Makawao.

As for the driver of the car, he’s been identified as a 69-year-old man also from Makawao, and he was treated for minor injuries.

Investigators are still trying to figure out what led to the crash.

Phoenix police have identified a 4-year-old girl killed in a three-car collision.

Angel Diaz died from Friday night shortly after arriving at a hospital, police said.

Authorities say a woman, who was 7 months pregnant, was driving a Ford Explorer southbound on 83rd Avenue near Osborn Road when it side-swiped a Chevy Malibu going north.

Police said the Ford Explorer continued across the northbound lanes and collided almost head-on with a Nissan Frontier pickup.

Police in Indianapolis are trying to figure out how a car got into the Broad Ripple canal early Sunday morning.

The accident happened near College Avenue and Westfield Boulevard shortly before 4am. Officers say a man drove into the water.

They are still trying to figure out how the accident happened. The driver was able to get out of the car on his own and medics took him to Eskenazi Hospital.

He is expected to be ok. It took a couple of hours, but tow trucks got car out of the water by 6:30am.

One person is dead after an accident on Interstate 695 involving a tractor trailer and a pickup truck.

It happened around 6:15 a.m. Sunday at I-695 and Perring Parkway.

The initial investigation reveals a silver Nissan Frontier pickup caught fire after colliding with a Freightliner tractor trailer that was parked on the right shoulder.

The driver of the Nissan has been identified as 30-year-old Brandon R. Delillo, of Baltimore. Delillo was declared dead on the scene.

Police have released the name of a Wisconsin man who died in a weekend snowmobile crash in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. State police say 37-year-old Chad Schlenvoght of Port Washington died following the crash about 2 a.m. Sunday in Dickinson County's Breitung Township. The site is about two miles northwest of Iron Mountain in the western Upper Peninsula.

A vehicle collision on state Highway 14 in west Skamania County sent three people to the hospital Sunday morning, after one driver stopped to avoid a tree on the highway. Shortly before 10:15 a.m., Dakota Holmgren, 20, of Salem, Ore., was driving a dark green 1999 Kia Sportage east on the highway at Milepost 26 when he stopped to avoid a tree in the eastbound lane. The Kia was being followed by a white 2005 Subaru Legacy driven by Destiny Kilburg, 19, of Milton-Freewater, Ore. Kilburg failed to stop her car when Holmgren stopped, and her car struck Holmgren's vehicle.

A 69-year-old Whidbey Island man suffered serious injuries after a single-car, rollover crash on Sunday afternoon. The man was driving a 2005 Honda Accord north in the 1300 block of Crosby Road when he crossed the center line around 3:45 p.m.. The driver over-corrected, slid broadside and hit a tree. The collision partially ejected him from the car. He was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was listed in serious condition.

A 14-year-old girl may have been trying to retrieve her cellphone when she was fatally struck by a freight train traveling through Martinez Sunday evening. Jenna Betti, an 8th grader at nearby Martinez Junior High School, was pronounced deceased near the railroad tracks after emergency crews received a report that a female had been struck by a train near Old Orchard and Howe roads at about 5 p.m., police said. The freight train’s conductor told authorities that two people got off the tracks as the train approached but that for some reason, the girl stepped back on the tracks.
