A 21-year-old city man, who told police he was responsible for the vehicle accident that seriously injured a 17-year-old bicyclist Thursday night, will be summoned to Northampton District Court to answer to the charges, police said. The accident was reported shortly after 9:15 p.m. near 60 Everett Street which is in the area of St. Brigid’s Cemetery. The 17-year-old victim was taken by ambulance to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton and then transferred to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

A 22-year-old is dead and a male suspect was critically injured after a chase led to a wrong-way, head-on crash on Interstate 40 in Greensboro Thursday night. Reagan Hartley and the suspect, Ronnie Fichera, 46, were injured around 10:20 p.m. just west of the Patterson Street exit. Hartley died on the way to the hospital, and Fichera was taken to a hospital for treatment of critical injuries, Greensboro police said. The crash happened after Fichera's Ford Expedition exited I-40 west at High Point Road, went around Four Seasons Mall and entered I-40 east going westbound, police said.

A man in his sixties was critically injured in a hit and run accident Thursday in the Soundview section of the Bronx. The accident happened at 3:30 pm at the intersection of Soundview and Story Avenues. Witnesses say the driver got into an initial accident with another vehicle in the parking lot of the Western Beef restaurant on Rosedale Ave and then fled that scene. In the process, he struck the male pedestrian. The driver was taken into custody about a block away from the accident scene. Charges against him are pending.

A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in South Austin. It happened just before 7 a.m. Wednesday in the 1200 block of South Lamar Boulevard near Lamar Square. Police say a man in his 60s was crossing Lamar in the middle of the block when he was hit. CPR was performed on him by Austin-Travis County EMS en route to University Medical Center Brackenridge, but he died at the hospital just before 8 a.m. No charges are expected to be filed against the driver who hit him, since he or she stayed on the scene and are cooperating with police.

Two people were airlifted to hospitals Thursday afternoon after a school bus and a car collided on State Road 56 at Interstate 75 in Pasco County. The persons injured were in the car. They were later identified as; James Yant Jr., 56, Felicia Smith, 23, and Frederick Whiting, 27. A Pasco County Schools spokesperson says four Wesley Chapel High School students between the ages of 16 and 19 were on the bus at the time of the crash. The students sustained minor injuries and were released from the scene to their parents.

Tumwater police arrested a man on suspicion of felony DUI early Wednesday morning after the SUV he was driving struck a light pole in the Walmart parking lot, court papers state. Employees at the Tumwater Walmart in the 5900 block of Littlerock Road had earlier refused to sell the allegedly intoxicated driver beer because he was so drunk, according to court papers.

A woman floated out of her submerged car Thursday morning as it was pulled from Lake Houston nearly an hour after she plunged into the water, officials said. The incident occurred about 9 a.m. at the Duessen Park Boat Ramp, according to the Houston Fire Department. As the car was being towed from the water, the woman floated out a broken window, said a spokeswoman for the Harris County Sheriff's Office. She was gasping for air.

A busy downtown street reopened early Thursday after an accident involving a car and a train blocked the roadway for nearly two hours. The accident happened after 3 a.m. near the railroad crossing at Washington Street, which is located between Orange Avenue and Garland Avenue. Video from the accident scene showed a dark-colored two-door coupe parked on the tracks directly in front of a CSX locomotive. Police said the cause of the accident is under investigation. Damage to both the train and car appeared to be minor. No injuries were reported.

A driver fled on foot after striking a concrete barrier early Thursday morning in Fayette County, and three passengers of the car were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. State police are still searching for the man, Evan Yuhouse, 23, of Scottdale. They believe that speed was a factor in the crash, which happened before 2 a.m.near the Pleasant Valley Country Club. The crash occurred on Route 982 in Bullskin Township.

The victim was identified as Heather Holwerda, 38, of Berea. State Police say she was standing in the northbound lane near her home when she was struck by a vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
